Anon, the IRS will NEVER call you or send you an email. Any interaction with them will come through regular mail. Happy you wised up . Lord mercy! To have sent that money out , can only shake my head.
I get this same exact call on my cell phone daily, claiming to be the IRS and that they have filed a lawsuit against me, It is a phishing scam. Just block them. If you try to call the number back on your cell phone it gives a choice of calling some 800 number or to dial 611, which is my cell carrier, AT&T. I would really like to be able to answer the call and give this broken english eastern indian a piece of my mind. DON"T! Call them back on your landl ine, that will give them your name , etc. Just block them off your cell but expect another call through a different number.
It is really distressing that in addressing a dastardly phishing scam, you are also revealing your unfortunate bigotry. Whether the scammer has an Eastern Indian English accent or Swedish is immaterial. For the record, I have been getting these same messages on my landline, and the accent is as Eastern Indian as Rush Limbaugh's.
Around 2:31 I got a voicemail claiming that I had a lawsuit against me and I looked up the number and it turned out to be a scam cooked up to make me pay them!
