I have been getting this message on my machine like clock work.  I find it to be hilarious. Treasury dept doesn't handle taxes. Someone is using my account - what account? Oh really, what account exactly would the treasury dept have of mine that they would catch this terrible fraud?   And it gets better, ...appearing in court, blah blah jail time. so our government has enough resources laying around to prepare a full out course case against me yet I don't get even one letter in the mail? My favorite part is that I should "kindly" call them back. Kindly? Seriously?  Anyhow, if it's not obvious, don't call them.  Stupid scare tactics.

There is another Treasury Dept phishing call that is a little tougher to catch, especially if you have a high school student and don't normally get a lot of phishing calls.  This was my first one so hook-line and sucker.  The caller ID shows 'TREASURY DEPT'.  Normally the caller ID says 'unavailable' what could the Dept of Treasury want?  I admit it, I answered.  A young male tells you that someone from email address xxx (and the email is legitimately your kids email) had applied for a grant and that he's calling to let you know that he won and (naturally) needs some information to process it.  Anyone asking for information lije that is a huge red flag.   The guy is clever and quick on his feet.  Remember this is what he does.  It took about a good minute of asking questions such as can you tell me about the contest? Why would 'my child' apply for a grant and not enter his real name?   What website hosted the contest? What are the conditions of the contest?'  Uhhhh.   Okay, we're done - Click.  Stupid me, the Treasury Department doesn't issue grants!!!!

Here's the deal. Unless you are involved with the issuing of US currency, why would the treasury dept call us?  Let your machine get it.  Think smart and don't share any personal information.
