Evidently people working for the United States Federal Grant Department now have heavy accents, and I was chosen at random to receive a $9,000 grant because I guess the US has so much money we're now giving it randomly to people. I was to give them either my credit card #, my bank account info or receive the money from Western Union. I played along and chose Western Union, got off and googled the scam which evidently is HUGE and ongoing. I was told (before i hung up) to call 202-643-9049 to make arrangements for Western Union. I didn't call back but a woman with a heavy indian accent did call back. She wanted wanted money, of course, to send me my grant. I told her I had already reported her and that the call was being recorded. She got mad and said there was no reason to curse (? I don't know what she through was a curse words in that?) and that they know my address, where i live and who I am. She was very threatening. I know it's all part of the intimidation, but it was a bit much. I told her that didn't change the fact that I know it's a scam and she hung up on me. It was way more sinister than a simple scam need be. Somebody needs to bust this ring up.
Received a phone call from +787878 (not even a real number) stating that I was being given a $9000 grant from the US government because 1. I pay my bills on time 2. I have not filed bankruptcy in the past 6 months and 3. I have no criminal record. Apparently, this is to "boost the economy." They asked me how I wanted to receive the money on my Debit/Credit card or via Western Union. I played along and stated Western Union. They gave me a ID# and a call back number (202-643-9049) in order to set up my Western Union payment. I never called the number but after about 2-3 hours I missed another call from them (+787878) but did not answer.
Just got the same call from an unknown number asking me to do the very same things. Caller claimed to be Freddie Menson from the US Federal Grants Department.
