If the Federal Gov't were calling you it would be visible on caller ID. They have nothing to hide. This is more than likely a scam targeting students and tax payers.
I received exact the same phone call and guy gave me my Id # and ask me to call Susan in 40 min, because she is out to lunch now, I called right away to see if I can get at least a message, but there was no answering machine on that number. It tells me that it was a SCAM!!!!!!!
I got a call yesterday and the foreign guy said I was selected for a free Grant offered by the federal government. I asked him right off was this a scam. He said no it wasn't. He read off my name and address and asked me if I was the person. He gave me an approval number and told me to call Susan Berry between 10am to 5pm
Scam caller targeting people on public information lists. Students, people in debt, etc. Beware. Never ever give a stranger banking info, ssn, or other identifiers. Always remember that nothing is free and if an offer seems to good to be true it is. Scammers play on peoples greed (desire for something unearned) and usually get away with their scam and your money
