I received a call today from a Mike Stern claiming to be an attorney. Said I wrote a bad check for a payday loan and that I was in trouble for fraud. I researched Attorney Mike Stern and found that there are several Mike Stern's that are attorneys but they all said they don't deal with payday loan collections. I asked Mr. Stern to give me the name and address of the firm he represents. He refused.

Received a call from this number, from 'Candace', claiming to be from a law group "WCCI" (I think she said Weinburg Cochran Colson Irwin-she spoke very quickly & I had to ask for the information at least 4 times). Stating I owe $1660 from a loan - claims it's from Namakan Capital - if so, this could be a payday loan, and the last I made that mistake was April or so 0f 2009). said she could "get me a settlement" for $455, but if it's not paid by 5 PM today, I will be arrested, face fines, possibly put in jail for 2 years, etc. I spoke with an attorney from www.creditlaw.com - she said they do not deal with payday loans, but offered the following: 1) payday loans are ILLEGAl - so whether they loaned me the money or not, they have no recourse for collection. 2) the collectors must be licensed in the state where they are trying to collect (I can't find any info on this "firm" except for negative reports on blogs like this! 3) attorney told me that I am NOT to send them any money 4) they are obligated under the law to send me something in writing, and it must be via US mail - I have even asked for something in e-mail yesterday, and they have yet to send it 6) Document everything - do not engage them when they call; save voicemails, especially if they threaten 7) report it all to your state attorney general.
I am so thankful I did not already send them money. I can't wait for her to call me when she doesn't receive the money today-she expects the cash to be wired, and I am supposed to call her with the receipt number. The fine lady at www.creditlaw.com also said to tell them I have contacted legal counsel & the AG office. I am also so thankful I found these blogs full of complaints - I know I am not the only one out there being screwed over & threatened. And I caught on before I sent the money. I received a call from 'Candace', today and she informed me of a payday loan I received back in 2008. I tried to tell her about someone calling me back in June of 2010 about this loan. She then told me I oue a total of 2400. I said to her I have never gotten a loan for that amount from any place. She then told me to hold on she would speak with the attorney came back to the phone and said the settlement would be dropped to 650.00 I said ok I will send a payment I do not want to go to jail. She gave me the information on how to send the money. She also asked did I have anymore payday loans out I told her I paid the only one I knew about back in June. I found this web-site and started reading about all the people that have been taken avantige of such as myself. Candace should be arrested for calling people so that we can send her money. Some one please tell me how to have her arrested for the heartahe she is casing. She never did say if I can or if I couldnt make monthly payments. This is the worst business I have ever heard of and to make matters worst she isnt in the state I am in
Received a phone call from this number but refused to give any information because the caller did not give their name or the company name. I immediately googled the number. thanks to all for providing info on this number.
