I just received a call same as above, I had the same exact conversation about that and the US government would always send a treasry check. Anyways, I asked for his information and he said his name was Matthew, I asked him his ID number, then asked him again he would not repeat it and tried to move elsewhere with the conversation. He got angry at me for asking questions "why are you asking me all of these things?' with an attitude then hung up. It was strange when I asked for his phone number, it was the one mentioned above (202)738-1671, but my caller id number it said he called from (206) 377-9857 (I tried calling this number but says not in service)
This number just called me too today!!!! BE AWARE I THINK IT'S A HUGE SCAM!!! I ALLOWED THE PEOPLE TO TALK TO ME TO FIND OUT WHO IT WAS. THE CALLER IDENTIFIED HIMSELF AS AN EMPLOYEE OF THE UNITED STATES FEDERAL GRANT DEPARTMENT AND SAYING THAT YOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED BY DEMOGRAPHIC SURVEY FOR US FEDERAL GRANT IN THE SUM OF $7,000.00 THEY THEN GIVE YOU A CHOICE ON HOW TO RECIEVE THIS ALMOST BELIEVEABLE "GRANT" YOU CAN CHOOSE IT BE DEPOSITED INTO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, OR ON A CREDIT CARD, OR CASH.. HOWEVER THEY MAKE IT CLEAR THAT THEY DO NOT SEND OUT CHECKS!! RIGHT THERE WITH THE NO CHECK POLICY MADE ME SKEPTICAL, SO I LISTEND FURTHER BECAUSE THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME SOME FOREIGNER TRIED TO SCAM ME!!! SO I SAID WELL SEND IT ON A CREDIT CARD (THINKING THEY WOULD SEND IT ON A PRE-PAID CARD IF IT WAS AT THE SLIGHTEST REALLY REAL) THE CALLER THEN ASKED ME FOR MY BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER, I TOLD HIM I DON'T HAVE ONE SO HE CONTINUES TO TELL ME THAT MY ONLY OTHER OPTION IS TO HAVE CASH SENT TO ME, SO I SAY RATHER BRILIANTLY HOW ON EARTH DO YOU SEND CASH THRU THE MAIL, HE SAYS WELL MA'AM WE WOULD SEND IT WESTERN UNION.. AAAAAAAH HELLOOOOOOOOOO ANOTHER BIG RED FLAG WAIVED INFRONT OF MY FACE LOL.. SO HE SAYS I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU A CODE AND A PHONE NUMBER THE CODE IS FOR YOUR FUNDS TO BE RELEASED AND THE PHONE NUMBER IS MY SUPERVISOR WHO RELEASES THE MONEY BUT YOU HAVE TO CALL RIGHT AFTER WE HANG UP SO IT CAN BE RELEASED TODAY, I SAID TO MYSELF THIS HAS TO BE A SCAM, BUT WENT ON TO CALL THE NUMBER, FIRST TIME I CALLED IT JUST RANG AND RANG, SO I HUNG UP AND CALLED AGAIN, THIS TIME SOMEONE ANSWERED AND SOUNDED EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL AND ANSWERED THE PHONE GOODAY FEDERAL GRANTS OFFICE HOW MAY I HELP YOU: SO I EXPLAINED THE PHONE CALL I JUST GOT AND HE SAYS OKAY MA'AM COULD YOU PLEASE HOLD SO I DO FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES (I HATE BEING ON HOLD) AND JUST AS I WAS READY TO HANG UP THE MAN COMES BACK ON THE PHONE AND GOES THRU THE WHOLE SPHEILE AGAIN THEN SAYS TO ME IN ORDER TO RELEASE YOUR FEDERAL GRANT YOU MUST GO TO ANY WESTERN UNION SITE OR STORE AND GIVE THEM THE RELEASE NUMBERS I AM ABOUT TO GIVE TO YOU, BUT HOWEVER BECAUSE THIS IS A FEDERAL GRANT WE NEED YOU TO BRING A PHOTO ID AND A 300.00 DEPOSIT. WELL I HUNG UP NO FEDERAL GRANT GIVING YOU FREE MONEY THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY BACK WOULD ASK FOR MONEY TO RELEASE MONEY.. JUST BE AWARE I AM NOW REPORTING THE PHONE NUMBERS TO THE FEDERAL TRADES COMMISION AND SNOPES AND MY LOCAL NEWS STATION TO MAKE OTHERS AWARE REALLY ANGERS ME THAT THESE SCAM ARTISTS PREY ON THE LESS FORTUNATE TO GAIN THEIR THOUSANDS.

I also got this call right know this people need to be stopped they are taking the Goverment
Name as a game and maybe se role the time to figure out
If it was a scam or not but some will fallow the direction.a

My daughter got the call yesterday. I figured it was a scam but told her to take his info and I would return his call later. I have not contacted him...wanted to check it out first and found this sited immediately. Thanks for the heads up. The number he left was 202-738-1671, name Johnny Show, KI141.
Ths is all so crazy I jst received ths same call from tht exact number &that same name (Johnny) he tld me all I had to do is deposit $330 &ill receive 7,000,00 &i was tld not to tlk to anyone about ths gov. money ¬ to tell western union because theyll charge me $500 but i think its a scaaam &most likely is from tha post above wow well glad I found ths sitee thanks alot ;))
