I got a call from 202-629-0975, yesterday. Let my machine pick it up. He was Indiand. He was so broken, I had to listen 3 times to the message to pick up words. He was calling from Level 3 communications. I reported it, He called back this morning. I looked up Level 3, and It is an internet, phone center. Then found alot of the calls come from there. He told me the police would come if I didn't return his call. This is a horrific situation, it is upsetting. There is a number to call for IRS, if I get another one, I will call them. it is 1-800-366-4484. Hope this helps someone.
I got a missed call from this number and it left a cut off message about needing me or my attorney to call back. I have no idea who or what this could be and when I called back with a blocked number it just rang a few times and gave me a busy signal.
I do not answer unknown callers. Someone with a speech impediment, or strong oriental accent called earlier today.
The caller did leave a voice message, to the tune of:
"The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive. This is officer James Morgan and my number is 202-747-2167, again 202-747-2167.
Now, don't try to disregard this message and do return the call. If you don't return the call or if I don't hear from your attorney,
I can only wish you good luck as the issue unfolds on you. Thank you and goodbye."
I called back from a "private number" phone only to get a busy signal and get disconnected after three rings.
Does anyone have an idea as to what do these type of scammers are after? Similar to hacking a PC, are they trying to establish a "zombie" (repeater) cellular network of sorts?
I just got the very same call...only it was a different name...Mike Jones (officer)
all the wording is identical.....thinking about calling the better business bureau or similar !!!!
The BBB is the wrong place to report this scam, they are not a regulatory agency. Do report it to the real IRS in the link in the post just above yours.
