Got the call from these losers. This one went by "Shawn Watson", with heavy Pakistani/Indian accent. LOL. When I repeatedly called back, same called from another line (202-241-2796), and this one, I was able to trace it back to;
Got a pre-recorded call today from the number 202-750-0280.
I called them back without knowing this as a prank call and talked to 3 persons. One person in Hindi, another lady who might be Liza and an officer Baker. They were playing TEAM James bond :-)
They were saying whether have I done fund transfer and I should report that to IRIS. So that I should pay $1500 or otherwise going file a case against my social security# and local police is on the way to arrest.
Thank GOD that the call was disconnected and I did not share any information.
The same pre-recorded message left on my answering machine as noted by others here, as well as on my friend's answering machine as well. Coincidentally, since I used to work for the IRS, I already knew this was a scam - the IRS will NEVER initiate phone calls for enforcement purposes.
The 202-750-0280 number is a Magic Jack phone number, but there are one of two different males that will answer the phone if you call it (I used a blocked number and a spoofed number); both males will answer the phone as "IRS" or "Treasury Department". That's when I went into a nonsensical tirade of gibberish. 48 calls later, they stopped answering.
Please report the number to the FTC via their Do Not Call Registry Complaint section - it's not a complete resolution to dealing with those clowns, but if it helps to keep one more unsuspecting victim from falling for this scam, then the better.
Got a call from what she claimed as crime investigation department of treasury inspector general and left a voice message telling me to call 202-750-0280. It's suspicious from the beginning as the voice echoed as if the call was from very small room or basement. Another voice message immediately followed from the same person urging me to call 202-241-2796 this time.
