They called me first from a weird number and told me to call the 202-780-5022 number because I have a government grant for 9,000 dollars but I would have to send a security deposit of 250.00 then they would send me the grant money plus my 250 back within 20 minutes. But first they said that they could direct deposit it into my account and I said no thank you.
I just went threw the same thing about a minute ago they told me that they would hold my case until my red flag went away after I pay $500 more on top of all that. Please becarefull with what you guys do out there with these phone calls.
Caller claimed I had been awarded a federal grant for $9,000. The caller had a heavy accent, passably Pakistani.
Call came less than 10 minuets after filing my 2016 FAFSA paperwork. I believe the call was generated by someone monitoring that filing.
Caller provided a grant claim number and instructed me to call 202-780-5022.
Caller used his accent to pretend he could not understand questions, and was clearly time constrained to spend as absolutely little time as possible on the call.
This is likely based on the scam of giving a callback number that transfers to an overseas line. It probably finances terrorists, or identity thieves or both.
