Didn't let him speak much. Second or third call today. So tired of these Indian or Pakistani people running their scams! I don't know why they feel they are entitled to my hard earned money. Sadly they are PAID to make these calls. I wish there was something our government could do to eliminate these overseas scam artists.

Called and left no voicemail. Waste of my time to even look at the phone. Tired of these calls but it's part of having my cell number in my email signature for work...

They wouldn't be allowed to state who the debt was from in the recording.  This is a well known debt collector.  They generally use shady means to collect.  That doesn't mean it is a scam though.  I always recommend  talking to a DC.  That way, it becomes first contact and your rights are then started.  This way when the violate the law, and they always do, you have standing to sue them and make them pay you.  Pretty cool huh?

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Read up on your rights here and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
