Male with heavy foreign accent called my home today, from the above telephone. My message indicated he was calling from IRS. Note the IRS website indicates the rise of fraud schemes using the IRS name. If you have had this bothersome phone call, you can report incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
I got a call from this number, last three days.male voice said he was calling from IRS fraud department, and I need to pay 5000 immediately through green dot money pak. Usually fraud guys use moneypak cards.
You are correct. ANY caller who wants you to send them money via prepaid card or Western Union can be considered a scammer. Prepaid card/Western Union are like cash - untraceable.
In fact, if you owe the IRS money - back taxes, penalties - whatever - they will always MAIL you a letter asking you for payment or to set up payment arrangements. They NEVER call you first!
Also received a call from 202 864 1212 from a male with a thick Indian accent saying that I would be arrested within 48 hours, that an arrest warrant had already been issued because I committed tax fraud. He would not talk to my husband who answered the initial call which was the first red flag since we file joint and my husband would likewise have committed the same fraud. My husband got on the phone w/this IRS impersonator as he was threatening me and the impersonator hung up after being questioned and being asked to put his supervisor on the phone. When we called back the number was disconnected.
