Had a voicemail in December from a gentleman with a heavy foreign accent identifying himself as Matthew Jones, badge #8947, from St. Charles County [unintelligible words]. He said a complaint was filed against me on November 8th and instructed me to call a Michael Black with the Internal Revenue Service and left a number of 202-864-1673.
An internet search of the phone number turned up Harvester Police Department (but not entirely legit - well, played scammer...)
I called the St. Charles County Police Department and they confirmed they have no officer by that name and that is not one of their badge numbers. They also confirmed they will NEVER contact a citizen on behalf of a federal agency.
Yes, do not call these annoying scammers. I received a call today from someone with a very heavy accent, reading a script (rather poorly, I might add) indicating there had been a claim filed against me by an LA Co. Sheriff officer relating to an IRS issue, and that I better surrender myself to the police dept. now or call this 202 number within 30 minutes to avoid having an investigative officer show up at my home to arrest me. Ou, shaking in my boots! I wish I had answered the phone instead of it going to voicemail so I could have told him that (1) sure, I'll show up to surrender...as long as the arresting officer was cute (2) I'll bring the fuzzy handcuffs (3) I enjoy being pat down, again, only if he's cute, and (4) hey dummy, go stick your finger up your a** and blow....I'm not this stupid. Goodbye.
Received a call from " number not in service" +1 (262) 636-3211
Racine, WI, to respond to a complaint filed against me with the IRS. A man claimed it was time sensitive and to call Shawn Woods at 202-864-1673. The second number had no answer. The first number had a recording "not in service".
Said he was from county sheriffs office for a warrant for my arrest. Used to call my home now my cell. Bad English with foreign accent. Phone is 202-864-1673
