Been getting the same voice mail supposedly by the IRS but when you call back it doesn't sound official and isn't answered by anyone recognizing themselves as an IRS employee.
They are scammers, claiming to be the IRS and that you are being sued. I called the number they gave me and called them out, telling them they are evil liars and should be ashamed of themselves. One transferred me to a "supervisor", who hung up one me. One guy repeated what I was saying, mocking me. The next person just hung up. Now my number is blocked. It pains me to think that someone could fall for something like this and send money.
Received this on my voicemail today. Total SCAM
"The reason of this call is to inform you that IRS is filing a lawsuit against you to get more information about this case file. Please call immediately on our department number 202-888-2982. I repeat 202-888-2982. Thank you."
I got the same call and I actually called them back. They knew my name and address which was kind of scary, but I could barely understand the guy. I told him the next time his organization tries to pretend they are from the actual IRS, they should make sure their "employees" speak English. Otherwise, he could go f-himself.
Received a voice mail message that said to call 202-888-2982 regarding a case number. I called the number and someone with an accent (possibly Indian) said he was an IRS agent, John Daniel, badge number IRM8915. He knew my name... Was able to look it up from my cell phone number. I asked him who are you? He said I am from the IRS. I said what do you do? He hung up.
Just got a similar call. They left an automated message. Called them back. They knew my name and said that I was being sued for taxes from 2009-2014. Told me amount owed was $3.9K. Even provided me an IRS Employee ID: IRM8915. I was very quiet and addressed their accusations with a sarcastic "OK" or "Really?". They hung up.
