If you are on Android usually you click on the circle to the left of the number. You will see 3 dots on the top right. One option is to block contact. I have 42 calls per day from insurance and auto warranty I have already blocked.
If you receive calls from a-holes like these, plus tons of others (like me), recognizing numbers that are most likely going to be illegal, boiler-room, cash advance, auto warranty, or other [***] scams, is pretty easy. Especially if you keep getting calls from the same number. I used to just not answer, look the number up and avoid. But sometimes after even blocking a number, I would somehow get a call from the very number i blocked, or they just change numbers.
The ONLY thing I've figured out that works PERFECT is this: if you happen to get a call from them and you're in a position to answer, answer in ANY foreign language you know like four words in. If you're nervous it might be a legitimate call, just really quietly say, hello", simply to get them to speak, which usually makes you pretty sure if it's a scam or not as they will most likely not give any information about their place of work or who is calling Then just sit there saying those four lines over and over. "Uhh, me llamo es...(fake name)". Or just talk super fast and make it seem like some other language. I am not kidding. This is 100% serious.
They will sit there asking if you speak English, either say no, or whatever else you happen to know in the language, or make up iibberish.
They won't call back. You're not a viable contact anymore. They won't even pass your number along anymore. If a number is not in service, or whatever the case, i'm going to make an educated guess that one of the few tasks that the the rep, regardless of working in some shady call center or boiler room, has to do, is mark down any number that is not valid, in service, or earmarked for The wrong person. Even better, you don't speak English, you're not who they are looking for, and you provide ZERO potential monetary value to them. You're not going to get called more then twice before one or the reps takes their [***] job seriously enough that your number goes away.
Asked about a car I've never owned, & wanted me to pay it off. I asked if they had cable or satellite network. he told me I need to pay for my car. I told him to get a coat hanger, & he'll get a few channels on his TV. He got confused, & asked what I was talking about. I told him shove a coat hanger up your [***] & it's a cheap abortion. He was confused again, & told me he was not a woman. I told him that he was. he got mad & said, what I think might have been "[***] you" a couple times & at that point I said Mohamed jihad. He hung up.
