I had this number call me today. The indain voice was the same as the last 3-4 calls kept asking for me to go to my computer. Claimed he was Microsoft service provider. I did not trust him.
Number kept calling my in-laws multiple times a week. In-laws are old & don't speak the best English. They finally answered the land-line phone & were told that Microsoft needed them to update their computer because it was causing problems. Man calling from 'Microsoft' had an Indian accent. In-laws followed instructions, & immediately was locked out of their own computer.
I am sure that this Microsoft Hack was successful, & unfortunately we didn't know about it until it was too late.
Open for suggestions to help them protect themselves the best way possible. They are not even 'sure' what files were stored on their computer, so it may be a tough ride.
The caller I.D. just said "ringing." A man with an Indian accent said he was from Microsoft and for me to turn off my computer and he'd walk me through fixing the problem. I smelled a rat and said I was leaving the house and could I have his phone number to call him back. He gave me this phone number including an extension. After reading the two messages here, I won't be calling him back.
