This is the latest number that these crooks are using to call me.  Both my wife and I are getting calls from these guys.  When we do choose to answer, there is a recording saying that (I'm paraphrasing):
"There is a pending charge from your bank that is scheduled for wage garnishment in the next 24 hours.  Please press #1 to resolve this matter."
Most of the time it goes to a mailbox that is full and then hangs up on you.  However, my wife got through once and the responding crook said that there were 2 checks outstanding that were written to Hancock's Fabrics from the summer of 1995 for $110 and $11.  My wife said that she had no proof that she ever wrote those checks and no proof that those checks bounced, and in either case, the alleged incidents took place 21 years ago and she was going to pay.  The responding crook then hung up.
Unfortunately, that did not stop the calls. However, I've since found out that the statute of limitations on a "bad check" is 3 years in California.  We have no proof whether these checks were ever written, and that is what these scam artists are counting on.  They likely will want you to make payment to them right then and there over the phone.
Do not fall into their trap through ignorance.  If you're getting calls from these crooks, find out what the statute of limitations for bad checks is in your state.  Then, if you do end up speaking to one of these crooks, you'll be armed with the knowledge that they can't do anything and let them know that.
