Hi,

Yesterday I posted the following ad on craigslist:

http://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/fuo/987674669.html

I got what appears to be a scam e-mail from someone named "Silvy Zavaly." I checked the phone number (that's in the e-mail for me to call) on the internet and found a posting about the number in the e-mail and I found this webpage (http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/2053514708). The e-mail states the following regarding the phone number:

"Here is my relay phone # is  205 351 4708 am deaf and will receive your phone messages via email ,regards"

Now earlier this morning I received in inquiry from someone named "Kelly Smart" that seemed legitimate. I replied to it with our phone number. Since the "Silvy Zavaly" e-mail doesn't make reference to the "Kelly Smart" e-mail I received earlier I made no connection. But, when I opened the obviously "scam" e-mail address with the long headers I found the name "Kelly Smart" in the references line. So they are obviously connected.

I'd be very curious to find out more about this.

Chris

Someone above asked:

"i think they are from alabama, i would like to know what do they gain doing this."

Here is what craigslist reports they may be trying to do (http://www.craigslist.org/about/scams):

2. distant person offers a genuine-looking (but fake) cashier's check

you receive an email (examples below) offering to buy your item, or rent your apartment, sight unseen.
cashier's check is offered for your sale item, as a deposit for an apartment, or for just about anything else of value.
value of cashier's check often far exceeds your item - scammer offers to "trust" you, and asks you to wire the balance via money transfer service
banks will often cash these fake checks AND THEN HOLD YOU RESPONSIBLE WHEN THE CHECK FAILS TO CLEAR, including criminal prosecution in some cases!
scam often involves a 3rd party (shipping agent, business associate owing buyer money, etc)

Hope this info helps.

Okay, this is getting funny. When I replied to "Silvy Zavaly" I said the following:

"Hi,

Wouldn't you like to look at it first in person? How will you pick it up? Do you know where Pulaski Highway is?

Thanks,"

So, I get a response from "Kelly & Marsha Smart" that states:

"I just moved here  and am rather preoccupied with my new job, that's the more reason why i am having someone else pick up on my behalf so please let me have the required info so that i can have the check in the mail today."

So I respond (to Kelly Smart) by asking:

"Moved from where?"

And within minutes the "not so" "Smarts" reply with:

"Heaven"

I kid you not!

Their command of the English language is almost as good as those Nigerian scammers. It's the (I'm assuming)  disposable cell from Alabama that is the new wrinkle.

interesting...I received the inquiries (2) via craigslist postings, got the same body of text (sounded fishy, so we googled it and here we are, in the fishtank with the rest of you) - the phone operator said the "205..." number originates from Clanton, Alabama. Sad day and age we live in.
