They left a text message on my cell phone saying "your payment placed on file has not cleared and to call1-205-378-7185 with the reference #" they gave me. No information about who they are or what it's about. Are these scammers now leaving text messages instead of calling? I'm not calling them back.

Fake, NOT Birmingham-area, caller with the same ole, same ole collection tactic (and I owe no-one by the way) --- " bla bla bla... case attached to your name and social security number....will serve papers at you residence or place of employment....contact us now to resolve..." - Contact number is a totally different number that seems to change with each non-articulate message. BLOCKED all numbers and I'm >1000000% sure that nothing will ever happen with this garbage.
