This person called here saying they were with Windows and I needed to turn my computer on and they would fix it as it was being downloaded with all kinds of viruses. There was a male that called first and then a female. Their English was VERY broken and very hard to understand. I am sick of people trying to rip everybody off. In this economy I am not doing very good at all myself, but I am NOT trying to rip people off. I want these people caught and prosecuted!
A guy with a HEAVY Indian accent identifying himself as being from Microsoft Windows told me there was a problem with my software and he needed me to log onto my computer to fix it. I asked his name; he said it was "Albert". I asked for his number. He gave it as "1205 (pause) 4198 (pause) 861" which showed he's not familiar with the way U.S. phone numbers are delineated.
I called the number from a second phone in my house. A recording with "Albert's" voice came on saying I'd reached Microsoft Windows support and someone would be with me shortly. I called again and got "Leon" who just laughed when I asked for a supervisor.
www.whitepages.com says this is a landline based in Birmingham, Alabama.
A guy identifying himself as being from Microsoft Windows told me there was a problem with my software and he would "walk us through the fix". Gave this number to call back when my wife told him I was deaf and would call him on my captioning phone. DID NOT CALL. There apparently was a bad MS Windows XP Update pushed on 4-10-2012 but there are fixes on the MS Windows Answers website (if MS hasn't already pushed the fix in the latest update) It is serious -- "blue screen of death" (BSOD) and Windows will not boot.
