Same deal with me. Local & Toll Free forwarded to my cell. I'm in the business of phone systems. One of the changes with current phone systems using VoIP is that you can send any number you program into your system. It doesn't have to be a valid number or it can be someone else's if you choose. Nothing we can do about it.
I've looked into blocking all calls on a scheduled basis on my Verizon cell while allowing my favorites to come through, but only the Iphone has the do not disturb feature and I do not want an Iphone. Galaxy 4s has it with Sprint, but Verizon disabled the feature because they want you to spend another $5 to use the feature. [***]!
I have a 1-800 for my business that forwards to my phone (I screen and only answer for existing clients). For a few weeks now I have been receiving several calls a day, and throughout the night, from many different numbers including this one.
They leave a blank 1 second voicemail on my 1-800 service.
Each time it happens it eats up 3 of my allowed/included minutes on the service. So far it isn't putting me over the limit but the frequency of the calls appears to be increasing and I may start getting charged each time I get 1 of these calls.
Here are some of the numbers from just the last 24 hours alone:
928-379-5795
559-422-5145
530-883-8498
623-552-5151
251-732-2113
510-688-6909
While posting this I decided to call back the first 2 numbers on that list above (the 2 most recent calls), one of which called just minutes ago, and got a message paraphrasing: "Welcome to Verizon Wireless the number you are attempting to call has been changed, disconnected, or is temporarily out of service".
