Just received a phone call from this number as well @ 4:44 PM PST. No voice message was left. I suspect you also received a call from Banker's Life by posting your resume online (I posted mine on Monster) as I've already been contacted by Banker's Life via e-mail. Most of these life insurance companies (Farmers, All State, etc.) have recruiters who are trying to get people to open up insurance agencies in town for said companies.
Likely not a phishing scam, but always best to err on the side of caution.
I called this number back to see if anyone would pick up. On the cell phone, it doesn't give any kind of ring tone for the call at all. But if you keep it on speaker and let it go it eventually says you've reached mailbox blah, blah, blah and gives the same phone number.
This was a phishing scam, whether or not they had any "jobs" someone was going to wind up with your data and they state that the call is being recorded.
Answered the call. Was greeted by "this is Banker's Life calling about your application and resume." I was pretty sure I had applied to no banking position as I don't work in the commercial financial services sector. I tried to ask where they got my resume. She said first she had to say something, which was something like "for the purposes of customer service this call will be recorded." I got the runaround on how they came to reach me. I then, twice in a row asked, what is the name of the position my resume was submitted for?" The person then went into a spiel about how "we have a number of positions available." I asked that they add me to their do not call list. The person said ok and I said thank you and I was hanging up, but in the background right before I pushed the button I heard her say something else different than before. Unfortunately I couldn't make it out.

Bankers Life Insurance Co....I (NOW KNOW) when I submitted a resume for a job thru an online agency I would be getting numerous calls from places not related to the job I applied for it wads to be a big mistake.
