I also got this message, a robotic voice, stated that I was to return this call, not disregard this call, to avoid legal action.
So, I called back. The man on the line spoke with a heavy eastern Indian accent. I had to ask him several times to repeat himself. It was a long conversation! PHISHING SCAM / FRAUD
Summary - He stated I owed the IRS money (specific amount of $3868.00) and that if I wanted to fight it, Ok, or I could pay now to avoid arrest, 72 hours in jail until I was taken to Federal court, and other threats of public humiliation. He told me I must remain on the line, gave me a name of Officer David Walker, IRS Criminal Investigation Division, Badge # 940397. He was pretty convincing. He never asked my name or gave my SSN to verify who he was dealing with, just threatened a bunch of very unpleasant things if I didn't pay. Then, as I proceeded to try to 'resolve' the issue, he told me I needed to go to my bank, draw out cash, then go to a place that sells government certified bonds, get an iTunes card, and then something else to do after that (I couldn't understand his heavy accent). He kept telling me that the call was recorded. So, after I heard about the payment method, I told him that I too was recording this call, and that I found it hard to believe that the government would want payment via an iTunes card. Suddenly the line went dead after he hung up.
Same number called my son"s cell phone, with the same message as everyone else has reported, said he had charges filed against him from the IRS, something about his identity being in question, and don't ignore this message, I typed in the number here and searched it and all these listing s about it being a bad number came up. Why hasn't this been stopped, why is it still going on?
