Got a couple of calls from 206-400-6853. First call left vm. Then I called back and spoke with a guy who claimed to be a police officer with the IRS and a law suit had been filed against me and that I was facing jail time and would be arrested in 45 minutes. Local police stated no warrant issued and that phone call is a scam. This needs to be stopped. Phone number originated from Washington state. FCC needs to put together a task force to track down these people and put them behind bars. If we can track down Osama bin laden, then we can track down these people.
A recorded message was left on my answer machine. It was rather garbled, but the following were some of the words I was able to understand.
This call is from the IRS, Internal Revenue Service, Tax and Audit Department. [message repeats] [garbled] Call us back at [garbled -- from some of the numbers I was able to discern, it was the same number given that called me] . . .urgency . . .Thank you.
The quality and manner in which this call was placed says to me "SCAM".
The call was left on voice mail. It sounded like a computer-generated voice--or someone trying to sound that way. Claimed to be the IRS and that a complaint had been made against me. Left a callback number (another area code 206 number). Cautioned me not to ignore the call as this was an urgent matter. Somehow it just seemed a little off to me.
Unfortunately, I deleted the voice mail before I got curious and went online and found this site.
Got this call also - tried to call back, number not available and voice mail box was full. Then an error. Interestingly, our local IRS office and our STATE IRS office won't take phone calls. How convenient.
