Message left @ work saying there is a complaint filed against my social #.
Who are these people? What is it? I looked it up and it says Qwest Communication Seattle Washington.
Most likely scammers - legitimate and law abiding debt collectors do not call up and say you have a "complaint against your SSN", whatever the heck that is supposed to mean! Scammers will use threats like this to frighten people into paying for so-called "debts" which are actually bogus, may have already been paid off, are outwith the statute of limitations for collection, or in some cases, are being paid to the correct creditor.
Got a message on my answering machine from this same number, same thing, said charges would be filed and something about fraud involving your social security card. Left a case number and phone number to call back.
So I called, an automated official sounding recorded voice told me this call was being recorded for security purposes. After a moment I hear a ring and some woman answers and quickly says "Hold Please" then puts me on hold forever. I finally hung up and called back. Same thing, when the woman answered I tried shouting "No I will not hold" but too late. Gave up after awhile and hung up.
Next day same call again, so I again return the call. Same guy telling me this call is being recorded but this time when the woman answered giving her name as "Tammy Johnson" she asked if she could help me. So, I explain the message I received and wanted to know what it was about and who they were trying to reach, since more than one person lives here and they did not specify who these charges would be against.
She stammers for a moment and says "Let me check" never having asked me who I was or anything. I then asked her who is filing these charges and shes says they were filed on behalf of "Lareshia Leonard" or something like that. I asked her if she could spell that name for me and she says "Don't worry about it, it was a wrong number".
I then asked "How did you get this number" and she said again "They called the wrong number, don't worry about it, they won't call back" and hung up. Well, I knew all along since I heard the first message this was just some sort of scam so I decided to harass them just a bit more. So I called the number back and a man answered this time identifying himself as "Mr. Monroe and could he help me" I told him I about the message and he said "Hold Please" and put me on hold, in a moment he answered again "This is Mr. Monroe can I help you" and I told him "Yeah, I'm the guy you just put on hold", at which he immediately put me on hold again.
I gave up at that and didn't figure I'd hear any more from them. But about an hour later I got the same automated call again saying I was going to jail and something about fraud involving my SSN.
I don't know what kind of scam they are running but apparently they are not very good at it.
