Don't you know? ... "Political Surveys" are exempt from the DNC list!
ANYONE can call your number by just saying they want you to answer a few of their survey questions first. THEN they ask for your credit card numbers and any other information they can con you into giving them.
re: "That list is for us to get all these phone calls"... Not true. The Do Not Call list is intended to PREVENT unwanted calls. Legitimate telemarketers are required by law to search the registry every 31 days and delete from their call lists phone numbers that are in the registry. Unfortunately, charities and political organizations can still call you, since they are "outside the law" where the FTC is concerned. Reputable organizations can still scrub their lists to respect that you don't want the phone calls. Once you are on the list, best advice is to report any calls you get that are unwanted, so that the FTC can follow up.
But if you've ever given your phone number to any business, it's potentially available as public record (or if/when they sell their contacts to other marketers or businesses). That's also when you may start getting droves of calls.
The telecoms could cooperate and stamp this out, but it is a biz model that pays for them. Personally, I'd like to see the death sentence for this kind of crap and I think it would stop it. Remember there was a time when stealing a horse would get you hanged.
