I also recieve unusual texts from unknown solicitors telling me thanks for visiting their site and I have giftcards awating me. I disslike this greatly.

I just got a call this morning from this number and spoke with a female named Maggie or Meggie and she said I was entered in a $1,000,000 Sweepstakes and they are sending me a $250 Gift Card if I ordered a subscription to 5 Magazines (which were greatly discounted) so I said "Lets do it as long as there is no catch/fine print" and she then transfered me to her so called "Supervisor" named Shane who picked up the call so fast it was almost as if he was already listening to the call and waiting. He was verifying my address info to ship out my magazine order and all and I was told that I would NOT have to give any credit card information or anything by Maggie/Meggie, but Shane (The "Supervisor") asked me for my birthdate which I was comfortable giving him, but then he started talking about automatic billing via my Credit Card/Visa Card and I said "Whoa, hold on a second. Maggie/Meggie told me you would NOT need that info now and there is NO catch whatsoever and within one second (if that) he hung up on me. I tried calling back and it says it's not even a valid number. BEWARE!
You must not give out any personal info like birth date to any stranger who calls you, no matter how trivial the info appears to be at the time, because of ID theft. This is a version of the automatic debit scam as described by the FTC here http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/telemarketing/tel06.shtm The scammers want your card to charge for shipping but buried in the fine print is authorization to charge your card every billing cycle with bullsh*t subscriptions that may be very difficult to unsubscribe from. Your bank may decline to refund charges even though you were unaware of it.
