The people posting at that website are saying that it's a SCAM by people who are PRETENDING to be from Wells Fargo Bank. Apparently, Wells Fargo has nothing to do with it.
If you call Wells Fargo (or any bank that a scammer is impersonating), they usually have a fraud investigation department and would like to be notified about this kind of fraud being perpetrated using their name.
The bank is also a victim and they will get to work on shutting down the scamming telemarketer a lot faster than reporting it to the donotcall people will.
The purpose of DoNotCall.gov is to keep the complaints on file (they don't do any investigation) so that when a bank or big company is victimized, along with the consumer, the bank's lawyers and the law enforcement agencies will be able to have access to all the complaints stored in the government's database against the scammer who is using that number.
That's another reason that it's important to report every scam call you receive to the DoNotCall site. Eventually the big players, like banks, airlines, retail stores, who's names are being used in these scams will send their legal department after the scammer. By having all our complaints in the database, it strengthens the big victim's case, which will eventually get the annoying telephone calls we keep receiving to stop.
