Indian and Pakistani grant/loan scammers. They buy the information. Usually happens when someone fills out an online application for loan or sometimes employment. Could be from a variety of sources. You can expect more and different scam calls from overseas. You might want to invest in a call blocker and NOT pick up on calls you do NOT recognize. Area codes 202 and 206 are favorites of the Indian and Pakistani scammers.
They called me today too and like an idiot I expressed hope and actually paid $250 towards an iTunes card to redeem $7,800. Afterwards they had me call New York to redeem money and then they proceeded to tell me I had to pay an additional $487 that's when I was like uh not happening. They claim I'll receive my $250 money return in 7-10 business days.
They called me saying they were from the United States treasury dept. The language was so thick that I asked to speak to an English speaking person. They transferred me to another foreigner. The person claimed that I was randomly selected by the U.S government to receive $7,800,but I had to put $300 on a iTunes card. When I told him I don't have any money he said to call back when I do.I flat out told him that this was fishy and that I was going to do some investigating...Scammers!!!
