I received a call from this number earlier this morning. Initially, I thought it was the IRS as I received a notice requesting additional information on our 2013 return. I sent the paperwork back yesterday. So this morning when he said I was being audited from 08-13, I panicked because they said I owed $5000 and an arrest warrant was issued for ME within the next 90 minutes if payment was to received. I asked what return was being audited and he says all five years. Then I googled the number on my iPad as he was telling me where to go to make a payment to realize it was a scam call. One thing, we file a joint return so both my husband and I would have to be arrested and secondly, I haven't worked outside the home since 2001, therefore it couldn't be for my wages. So I played along, took the address of the place I am to go to. I called and reported this to the local police dept and I also called the Advance America office they told me to go to. I was told to not contact anyone regarding this and that a federal officer, David Baxter, was watching me to make sure I was legitimately making an effort to pay the back taxes owed. Still playing along, I told him I was at the mall and he said yes, that is what the federal officer confirmed. I am to be at the Advance America officer in 30 minutes--to pay $2000 to have the arrest warrant cancelled. According to to Advance America agent, 10 minutes after money is handed over that money gram is no longer able to be cancelled. BEWARE OF THESE SCAMMERS. NORMALLY, I DO NOT RETURN SUCH CALLS BUT SINCE THEY SAID IRS , I CALLED SINCE I HAVE RECENTLTY BEEN CONTACTED BY MAIL BY THE IRS. The most concerning thing, is that they had my address which I verified during the initial few minutes of the phone call.
Total scam. IRS has no powers of arrest. It does NOT file lawsuits. No one is arrested or prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. Scam originates in either India or Pakistan. Block and ignore. DO NOT RETURN THE CALL!

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone. US mail only. IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of money. IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.
Total scam. Do not return the calls. They are looking for vulnerable people. They prey on women, single mothers, the elderly and members of the immigrant community. Ignore and block their calls.
