The IRS does NOT call you. They either send you a letter, or they appear in person, and show you an ID card.
The IRS does NOT have to file a lawsuit. They are an administrative agency. They tell you how much they think that you owe, and you either pay it or you don't. After that, they can seek administrative remedies, without going to court.
Did they threaten to have you arrested? The IRS doesn’t do that either. It's an administrative agency.
Are they going to send a sheriff to serve you papers? "Sheriff" is not a Federal position.
Unknown male states he is calling from the internal revenue services and they have filed a lawsuit against me. No names for who the call is for and who is making the call.
A male voice left a message on our machine and said the same thing that poster I.R. said above-that he is with the Internal Revenue Services and that a lawsuit has been filed against us. The man does not give his name or indicate the person he is calling for.
I also go the same voicemail. When I called back, the man identified himself Rick Anderson, provide me the IRS Agent ID 12167. He said the're a lawsuit file against me and asked do I want to settle the amount within the court or outside. And if I hang up or not to pay, they will ask the police to come right away and have me arrest. I asked to speak to his supervisor but got drop. So I called back again from another phone, the same voice from the man answered and this time he said his name is John Smith, I asked for his IRS number, this time he provide me 2327293121. I then asked to speak to officer Rick Anderson, he then hang up.
Scam!!! Some indian guy poses as Officer Edward Fitch and his supervisor is Officer Mike Henry, both act official and give phony badge numbers, gave me a BS case # and file # but denied any ability to produce the documents to me or my attorney --- consulted this search and found so many others with the same issue. Sad that there are people in the world who live their lives to deceive and take advantage of others
