Claims to be an officer from the IRS. Obviously a fraud. Probably looking for social-security info. This is the 3rd or 4th call I've gotten in the last 3 months, each with a different phone number.
The IRS would first mail a letter.
I reported this number to the IRS. This is the response from the IRS:
"Thank you for reporting this information.
This is a scam; the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) does not have anything to do with the individuals that are impersonating IRS employees. The IRS does not contact taxpayers via telephone demanding payment and/or threatening to arrest taxpayers. Do not provide any Personal Identifiable Information (PII) or money to these individuals. If you have suffered a financial loss or provided the caller with your PII please email or fax (202) 927-7018 your receipts, a brief summary of the incident and any other supporting documents that you have."
I got called, since I didn't recognize the number, P l let my answering machine pick up the call.
He left his name as Adam Webster (IRS agent).
I didn't call back, since IRS never called.
It is scam
