I received a voicemail on my work number, for an individual who has never worked here and I have never heard of indicating that they have been named in a "very serious legal matter, and that you or your legal counsel need to contact our office immediately". The automated system further indicated that a complaint had been filed with their office and that the person named in the voicemail was named as a Respondent. I work at a law office, and the person named is also not a client. This is definitely a scam. If a person were named in a lawsuit or serious legal matter, they would be served with the written Complaint, not receive an automated phonecall. If you receive a call from this number do not call them back, and do not provide any personal information.
I just called back this number from a message received today and a "gentleman" (term used loosely) named James Stewart answered and had my name, SSN, very old (no longer in existence) email address, old company information I don't work for but know of, and which bank I use ... then proceeded to tell me I owed $900 before the county takes me to court for fraudulent check writing from getting a payday loan 4 years ago ... wow! I explained that I hadn't done payday loans before and that he had received bogus information to which HE LAUGHED AT ME and said "I'll just tell them to proceed with the charges". I told him he was being an a**hole (which was wrong, I know) but he responded with "you are the a**hole and you don't pay your bills so I have a lot more names I can call you" ... OMG! I added another couple words as I hung up the phone. Holy cow! How do these people get away with this!
I got voice mail from this number and the person on the other end said that I needed to call back. The message said I was involved in a legal case and needed to call back.. This is a scam; I have been getting calls for at least two years from various scammers. They must have my number. Time to get my number changed. Don't believe these people. When they call again, say yes, I'm looking for they same person, they owe me money too.
