got a scammy sounding phone call that said to call the # 207-869-0165 to receive my 'prize' the unidentified caller, said i should call the above # and ask for Byron Williams, even though B.W. may be in a meeting or away from his desk
When I checked my messages after work today there was a message from the "claims center" in Portland, Maine, congratulating me because my entry form had been drawn last night. The message stated that I had until 9 pm to call Byron Williams at 207-869-0165. I was pretty sure I had not filled out any forms, but I called the number anyway and got a message stating that I had reached the office of Byron Williams. "I am either out of my office or in a meeting. Please leave a detailed message.....". I did not leave a message, and the whole call started sending up red flags. A short time later my husband and I received a call from "Byron Williams" from the same number. My husband answered and the caller asked for him by name, not for me as they had in the message. The caller said it was "Cool Cash Giveaway". Between the time I had called the number and we got a call back, I had done some research online at this site and found several complaints about this Byron Williams using another number (800-229-9612) and going back to 2007. After hearing an almost identical scenario as described in several of the complaints we realized it was indeed a scam, my husband confronted him and told him we were on the "Do Not Call List". When asked to identify his company, what the drawing was for, etc., the caller got very defensive and rude. In short, don't fall for it! It is a scam!!
