"Ron" called our church this morning and wanted financial help, claiming he was stranded at a local truck stop. I referred him to a local rescue mission, and he told me 'I don't wanna get stuck in some rescue mission.' I then referred him to the local police dept. and then he got quiet and that is when I figured he was a pan-handler. It wasn't until the church secretary checked the number on caller i.d. did we realize his was a phone scammer, and not a very good one at that.
He tried to scam us into sending him money; said he was stranded near us (we are in PA) and it turns out this is a land line number - hmmmm? He showed us on our caller ID once before.
