Feb 18, 2014.... Seems like the guy is still at it, we too got a text to buy our snow tires off craigslist. We got the whole deaf, out of town, money order story, the text came in a midnight, so he must be deaf and a insomniac. The texts ended when we said let us know when you are in town and we will see if we still have them. Some people.....
Got a message saying he was interested in a car I was selling on craigslist. Text ended with: "Txt only am deaf pls"
Then got a longer message saying: "Thanks for your response. I'm going on a vacation to London but I will instruct my assistant to prepare and mail your payment which I'm sure you'll get in about 4 - 6 business days. I'll add $20 extra for the delay. I'll pay by M O or cashier check so send me your info (i.e. full name, mailing address, and your phone number) so payment can be mailed out immediately. I will also make arrangement for pick-up which will be after you must have received and cashed" - the text ended there.
Apparently this is a common scam that has been reported coming from other numbers as well.
I got a text from this number concerning a cell phone that I had on Craigslist for $125. Said text only as am deaf, pls. Next message said he would mail my payment as a money order and arrange pickup after I had cashed the payment. I asked if he could send cash as I was crippled and not able to cash a money order. Response back was that money order was the only way he made payment at this time. I responded back that I was so sorry as I really wanted to complete this transaction and that I had lost my legs in the war and was unable to do much. That is where the texts stopped.
No, I am not crippled and I do have my legs. He lied to me so I guess I could lie to him. Just playing with the jerk!!!
