Received a VM from phone number 1-265-428-4274. Crackling line, caller clearing voice, then realized he should leave a message. Foreign accent, "Officer Sherman" from some state office, there are 3 Federal charges against me, I should call him at 1-209-207-7834. The incoming number is invalid. The return number is: "Reverse Phone Lookup Information Phone Number: 209-207-7834 Phone Type: Cell Phone Phone Company: CELLCO PARTNERSHIP DBA VERIZON WIRELESS - CA Country: USA - United States City: TRACY State: California - CA". Any valid legal process should be served in writing, and a legitimate State Agency calling for such claims would be an identifiable number. Thank you for this thread!
caller identifies himself as Mark Walter, says he's investigating something (call was broken up, caller has an accent making him difficult for me to understand). I did get the part about 3 federal charges against me, and that I could be called into court, so I should call and identify myself ... which doesn't make much sense to me, if he already knows who I am!
A client of mine just called me to tell me his wife received a call form a Mark Walker. He gave her this "209" number. I called the number on my client's behalf and left a voice mail message. I am expecting to receive a return phone call tomorrow.
Same bogus call. Clearly their threats work often of enough for them to continue this scam. Its a shame that this is criminal activity is so common. Just ignore the calls !
I got call today from that number and asking to pay unpaid taxes. This guy by the name of Peter Williams represents himself as an IRS agent. Just ignore him and hang up the phone. Do not give your personal info at all.
I received a call from a different tel # 954-287-8417, (my caller id said CALL CENTRE VOIP), who knew my first name and proceeded to leave me a voicemail with an accent (think it was Dominican) saying that he was 'officer Jay calling from the State Dept', (which state and which department he never mentioned, which therefore screams total scam) and said I was named in 3 violations and it was imperative that I call back this 209-207-7834 number. Completely ignore anything to do with these 2 numbers.
