Callerid said firststep tech: Caller said he was with microsoft and calling about my computer. I broke out laughing and he asked why I was laughing. I said it was because i recognized him as a lieing sack of [***]. He hung up. (Note: this app needs another "call type" "Unknown Scam"
Just got same call saying I'm eligible for 8k in grants I applied for. When asked for a call back number they insisted on getting my cc or bank card. Heard it all before. Hung up and got a call back from an unknown number which just means theyre using VOIP.
An unknown number does not by any means indicate that the caller is using VoIP. It simply means that a CPN value wasn't passed to the terminating switch or soft-switch from the originating switch. VoIP is quickly replacing traditional TDM service in all aspects, but the Caller ID issue persists whether they're using a PRI, a SIP trunk, or anything in between.
