Today I received a call, the number was withheld) from someone claiming to work for Windows Security Service.
Same as above (Carl Smith). Said he (Peter) was calling from California but had strong Indian accent with American overtones. Alarm bells rang but I continued with him until he asked for money. I said I wanted to investigate this and he gave me the no 2096764533 to call back. After looking on the internet I decided to call back to see who answered the phone and received a voice message that 'the person was unavailable'.
Is this just a scam to get money for unsupplied security or are they able to access financial information from my computer?
Received a call from this number just days ago. Caller claimed to be from a company called windowsitcare and his name was Eric. Had a very strong accent- middle eastern. Said my computer had been sending many error reports to Microsoft (which it had) and his company was calling to diagnose the problem.Wanted to take control of my computer to diagnose and clean up the problem. I told him I needed to think about it and would call him back. I got off the phone and called Microsoft to see if this was lagit, and while I was on the line with Micorsoft this guy called me twice and asked why I had not called back. I told him I ws talking to Microsoft and he hung up. Microsoft told me that they would never contact their clients this way. They were more than likely trying to get info from my computer and at the same time sell me something that I did not need.

After showing me what he said were errors due to malware/virus he asked that I renew the computer protection plan that had expired. When I refused to purchase but wanted to research this myself he gave me this number and said that I could call back. After reverse tracking this number it led me here to this forum.
