Getting numerous calls from this number. Strong accent from lady wanting my checking account # to give me federal grant $7849. WOW! Pell Grant max is $5740 (approx) for college. Said if I didn't want to give her my financial institution #s, I could give it to Sam Martin at 209-813-0134. She called right back after no call to Sam from "Unknown" #. I'm not stupid!! She's real evasive. Said my name was demographically picked. PLEASE...DON'T...
Caller had a strong East Indian (not Native American) accent and said I had been chosen to receive a government grant of $7000. I had to promise not to use the money for drinking or casino (sic). It was obvious the man was reading from a prepared script. He first wanted to know details of my checking account so he could have the money directly deposited to it. When I told him I would prefer to receive a check in the mail, he told me I had to immediately call 209-813-0134. As I was already on line, I googled the number and found it was all a scam.
It certainly does not improve the reputation of the many honest, intelligent, well-educated and hardworking legal immigrants from the Indian sub-continent to have such scammers, whose national origin is so obvious, take up this dishonest occupation. Enough damage has already been done by their filthy motels, gas stations and Dunkin' Donuts operations. Clean up your act or accept being heartily disliked and discriminated against by the general population.
