When this call came in my CID said California Call. I have something called Privacy Manager through my communications provider. That means that no call can get through to my number without a name in my CID. This organization disguised their true name so the number may be spoofed as well. If it is some police fundraiser, it is not even in my area code! I rely upon the Charity Navigator web site before any donation and in their Top Ten Best Practices of Savvy Donors tip #2 says to hang up on any phone callers to cut out the middleman. Very little, if any, money will reach the charity when donated through these phone callers. Thanks to Slim, and others on this site, I do not pick up any calls with their ID hidden. Also, please NEVER return calls to unknown numbers. Wednesday I called my communications provider to see if there were any new features available to protect myself. The first thing he said was "never answer if the caller and number are unknown and never return the calls." Local LE is saying the same thing.
Well said Wendel. Screw the cops! They did pretty darn good during the recession, much better than anyone else.
