I DO have a Mac. First I rope them in and let them confirm the "problem" is coming from a Windows machine. I even make them repeat it to be sure. Then I hit them with having a Mac. But they just switch gears, like that's what they MEANT. Last time, I told them I *AM* getting an alert on my computer, which they perk up at because they can take advantage of that. When they ask me what it is, I tell them it's s [***] ALERT. Yeah, that's about when they hang up.... ;)
My aim is to waste as much of their time as I can.
Another favorite is asking them to hold on while I get a pen and paper. Then I put the phone down and don't come back. Leaves them hanging on the line until they figure it out.
Guess what?? IF you give these people your address, birthdate, credit card number and any other personal information they ask for, THEN they will promise to get all the bugs and viruses out of your computer. But the truth is, they don't even know if you have a computer or not! All they want is to scam you! Get as much $$$ out of you as they can.
They call with an auto-dialer, so there's no one there when you answer. I hate that! Then the heavy accent, and when I said I'd been waiting, the person said they'd been waiting for me! Then they hang up. I called back to get my name removed, and another foriegner answered by asking for my name. When I said I didn't want to give it out, but wanted to be removed, he hung up, too!
By the way, didn't the government fix this problem a long time ago with their do-not-call list? They only made it worse!
