My son has been receiving calls from this number. They told him they were with the DPS Officer's Association and that he had agreed to give them a donation so they needed his credit card number. He tried to get them to call my number but they wouldn't do it and hung up. I tried to call them back but only get a recording and then can't leave a message because a recording says their mailbox is full.
Ahh, the old Police Charity scam. The call is legal because its for charity. But the company making the calls keeps 95% of every donation.
They won't stop calling. Contact your son's phone provider and see if they can block all calls from this number. Or put the number in your son's contact list and assign it the ring tone "no ring". That won't stop the calls but it will make them easier to ignore.
Technically the calls are not legal, because these so-called "charities" lack non-profit tax-exempt status such as that conferred by a 501(c)(3). Therefore they are not "charities" in any real sense but for-profit "companies" -- which makes the calls totally illegal.
Please don't be fooled. These calls are part of a 100% illegal scam.
