I just received a call from this number on my CELL PHONE! When I phoned it back, I got an automated operator response, "The number you called is not in service." I don't know who it is that called both of us, but it is NOT American Funds, unless American Funds is spoofing a non-working number as their caller ID!
American Funds is a Capital Management Group company. They are calling only if you are a fund holder and there is a service issue pending. If you don't own American Mutual Funds, then they may have an incorrect number in their system or you number once belonged to their customer.
Answer the call and determine what they need and who they are calling. This can be cleared up quickly and they are a legitimate, honest company.
this is indeed an American Funds number (likely and Advisor service number). i'm a registered rep and left them a msg to call me back. I didn't recognize the 'cap group' so i didn't pick up but the voicemail was from american funds.
