Technically, even if you are past the statute of limitations, a debt collector can still call you. They are correct in stating that they are not required to abide by that. They can call you for as long as they want. The statute protects you from being sued. There is nothing to say that they can't call and ask for money.
The limit also resets if you, in any way, make or agree to make any payment. Be a smart [***] and say that you will give them a penny every other Friday, and you have now reset the limit. They can turn around and sue you for the entire balance simply because you agreed to pay them something (even if only a penny).
This number started calling me on Dec 14,
They called my daughter, my 2 Sons, My wife, My work.
I knew it was a scam because I have never taken or even applied for a Payday loan.
I F'd with them on the phone for about 30 minutes until they finally hung up on me.
Today I am going to completely inundate there phone lines with massive automated fake calls.
this is how I got rid of that IRS scam last year.
Called my phone saying I owed money. I told them I don't owe anyone and to remove me from their list. They kept trying to get me to verify my full name and SSN. I said if I owe anything, then send me a letter. He refused saying he couldn't do that until I verified who I was. I blocked the number. He kept saying it was his job and after I hung up on him he had the nerve to call right back. Blocked the number. Didn't even hear the supposed company he was calling from cause he only wanted me to verify information. Had a slight accent that I couldn't place.
left message stating they are from tacs a collection agency and would tell me on behalf of who until I verified personal information I told them good luck with next person. I am not giving you any of my personal information as your company does not even come up on web. Told me that I can think whatever and not scam and they would be in touch. I said look forward and they hung up.
