Missed calls today at 11:34AM EST and 2:59PM EST. Automated message to return call - no information, just the phone number. I returned call. The lady on the phone said she was with the Internal Revenue Service and the call was regarding a law suit being filed against me by the Internal Revenue Service. I refused to give her my information. Clearly phishing scam to gather names and SSN information.
They left a voicemail saying that they were the IRS and that they were filing a lawsuit against me and I needed to call them back. I called the number back to try and get info to file a report with IRS.gov. The first person said her name was Officer Kelly but she hung up when I asked for an ID number. I called back and got a guy with a thick Mexican accent who said his name was Victor. He gave me the ID number as 99775. I told him I was going to hang up and call the IRS and get back to him using the ID number that he gave me. He promptly started hurling F-bombs at me. I told him I was also going to contact the INS for good measure then hung up and blocked the number.
If you do get these calls, try and get as much info as you can and then report it to the IRS on their website. They already have a list of scam numbers that they know about. The more people that report, the more those numbers will be dealt with.
