TECH SUPPORT SCAM - Want to sell you tech support yearly subscription. Not typical "Windows scam."

A message came onto my screen in a new window and an automated voice said "attn Verizon customer ... security ... personal information including credit cards at risk" ... I called the number 888-401-0759 and no Vz identification given on the phone - typical boiler room background and Indian accent. I hung up and got an immediate call back from 210-762-6768 "customer service." I didn't answer.

I looked in my internet history and it says www.iyogi.com - It is an actual company. Their marketing technique is to identify your IP number and thus your ISP and that's how they knew I was a Vz customer .

Read this for how they do it. They purchase keyword search terms and that triggers the whole thing.

Read here for consumer complaints. When someone purchases a tech service contract with them, the company causes problems with the customer's computer so that they need to call tech support and then they charge them more money to get the problem fixed.

I have premium tech support w/ Verizon and the tech was not surprised or concerned. It is apparently a common technique. I have Norton so I should be find. I don't see iyogi anywhere on my computer. I'm going to use Norton Power Eraser and do a full scan.
