Thomas, while not perfect, I believe phone blockers help immensely. They work even better if you do what i did, which was not easy to do, but I did it anyway: I turned off my voice mail. As such, new scammers never get a live answer, and repeat scammers get the fast busy signal, like my number is out of order, which I have programed it to do for repeat-bogus calls. Friends and family know what the deal is and call me on my cell phone  when they hear that the fast-busy signal. This system has worked very well for me.
