Just got a call from this number. I never answer numbers I don't recognize, but got curious b/c this didn't seem like the usual robocalls I receive several times a day, so I did a search and came upon this site. Thanks for all your comments, good to know it's a scam. If they call again, I may have fun with them like some of you did. :-)
A (very pushy) person using a foreign accent, told me there was a security or malware issue in the computer that was used at my address. (I asked him whether he knew who I was) He quoted the house number and zip code correctly. I told him I thought people making such calls were criminals. Later, when I tried re-calling the number, I got the recorded message, "The area code or telphone number as dialed is not valid. Please check the area code and telephone number and dial again. Thank you. The following tones are for the deaf community. (random notes in three bursts, like a fax machine)
These guys first called about six months ago. They ask for me by name. The foreign gentleman who called told me that I had malware on my computer that was sending them messages. Immediately recognizing this as a quasi scam, I asked who his company was. He said they were the "windows service center". I then asked which one of my computers was sending the messages (playing with him). He said "it's your main computer". I asked if he could give me the IP address of my "main computer". When the gentleman circled back to the original arguement, I politly interupted him and asked to be removed from their list. He hung up. They then called me a week later with the same malware pitch. I immediately interupted the foreign gentleman and asked that my phone number be removed from their list. He hung up. Well, I guess they put me on the "call back in 6 month" list becuase they just called again tonight. I did the same thing as before, I simply interupted the foreign gentleman during his malware pitch and asked to be removed from their list. He hung up.
