At 1:02 PM today, we received a call for my partner from someone who, after being asked several times, identified himself as Dan Quinn from Empire. When he could no longer hide the fact that he did not know the person he was aking for and was told that we were not interested in the "stock brokerage" services offered by "Empire", he became rude and hung-up.
This message is offered to those managers and supervisors at Empire and any other company whose services require cold-calling:
Cold-calling does not have to be an unpleasant experience for either party. Train your personnel to be polite, to identify themselves and the purpose of their call as this simple, considerate and respectful approach will result in a much greater success rate than the behavior that gives cold-calling a bad name.
I got the same call today. He was actually very nice! He identified himself right up front. When I told him the person he was looking for retired a couple years ago he apologized and said he was calling an older list. It was a pleasant experience because I answer his questions and he answered mine. It bothers me to see someone run to an internet site and type something nasty about a person they never met. Its clear whoever typed the above post had a preconcieved notion in the their mind about how the call would go once they saw the 212 on the caller I.D. Thats not very open minded. I'm betting they keep this site open on their browser all day long and type in telemarketer numbers. Even down to the very minute they call! That leads me to ask... Would you have been happy with anything he said? I doubt it.
I had no clue this website existed. I found it because I typed in his number to the search bar to find his company and this post came up. I wish Mr. Quinn the best!
Caller identified himslef as Ben Quinn from Empire Asset. He was speaking very fast it was hard to understand what he was saying. I had to ask him to repeat himself. He sounded annoyed.
He asked for the owner by name. I asked him to hold and he immediately hung up on me. Very rude.
