Same people as 408-462-6582..............told me I was being sued and had 45 minutes to remedy the situation or I was going to be arrested at work - the best part, for supposedly not making a loan payment (an absolute LIE). They insisted I needed to go to CVS or Walgreens and get a prepaid VISA card to pay and settle the debt. They supposedly read an affidavit to me over the phone and asked if I had any questions...when I asked who they were they got mad and said it was in the affidavit they read. When I asked for a breakdown of the amount they wanted from me they got mad again and said they gave me all the details they have. When I asked why I wasnt' contacted...they insisted they sent me 4 emails a day for the last 3 days but got no response from me.
same here, don't know who it is. But i'm guessing it the same person who left me the voice mail about needing an attorney. Though, i don't know why i would.
I received a call (4:00 pm CST) from 212-444-6661. Male with strong foreign accent (Pakistani/Indian type) saying I had been selected by the government for a $7500.00 refund for paying my bills and taxes on time. I asked what it was all about and he stated all I had to do was to go the Western Union office and give them my information and..... at which point I stated I could not do that and he said he understood, said thank you and ended the call. Sounded like some kind of scam to me.
It's a BS call from India. They will tell you that they are calling from "The US Government" and that there is either a refund for you or a law suit... Either way, they are trying to scam you, get your banking info, anything they can get their scummy little hands on. Don't believe them at all. Don't believe that their name is "Kevin Jones" or whichever American name they are using that moment.
Personally, I like to play a little game with them! I have unlimited minutes and let them know that I will not disconnect the phone call, I will just annoy them until they hang up. I will push buttons in their ears, or tell them how much of a disgrace they must be to their family for doing such a pathetic job and scamming innocent people. That they must be a pariah for doing something so disrespectful. Also, don’t be afraid to start making racist comments and cursing up a storm. This is a quick way to break them out of character and get them angry and cursing back. (I have had them sitting on the other end laughing, or they will start talking very dirty about either their or my genitals, etc. Play along and tell them how disgusting they are etc. It’s a fun little game of wits and flashy vernacular!)
If they don't hang up yet, I proceed to tell them all of the reasons why they are not calling from the US Government. 1) The only way that a valid communication would be sent is through USPS, hard paper copy only. ("But I understand why you're calling. It's because you don't have access to a USPS office in India, right?!) 2) They can never tell you exactly where they are located. ("Give me an address for the office that you're in. You can't? What city are you in then? Oh yeah, so how is your weather today?") 3) They will always tell you a city different from where the area code is from. I had 212 tell me that they were calling from DC. Tell them that you are aware of the software that they are using to disguise their phone number, and that they could call you from any number that they wanted.
Usually I get them to break before I go through all of these steps, but just persist. I tell them that the more time I waste of theirs is less time they have to harass other people. If I'm busy, I will tell them to enjoy the silence, put them on mute, and just set down the phone somewhere!!!
